Worshipping of Shri Devi

The priests of Shri Devi belongs to two families. They get remuneration as decided by the temple. They get status and respect also. They are life long priests. Right from the installation of Devi to this day the linage of Devi’s priesthood could be traced in records. Temple appoints priests to sub-temples. For special worships like ‘Veda Parayana’ and ‘Homa Havana’ priests are appointed by the temple only. For any kind of worships desired by the devotees proper help and arrangements are made by the temple. Temple stone too becomes shankara by the influence of the priest – like this proverb, it could be noticed that loyalty, faith and influence of the priests were the causes for the spread of Devi’s greatness far and wide. In case defects were found in the priests they were removed and substitutes were appointed. Considering all these, it can be realized that rules of the temple are very strict. The fear of diety and respect for Devi were so deep rooted that the entire village would be victim to the wrath of Devi if there was any transgression in the mode of worship. Discipline, neatness, adherence to time and cleanliness are the main points being maintained daily in the temple.

The Hindu Temple Committee, while appointing the trustees, used to appoint one of the priests in the committee of trustees. But considering the problems this system was stopped from 1915 A.D. But the priests are bound to get honourable status even toady.

Worships and other offerings take place ritualistically everyday. On Tuesday and Friday hayagreeva and seera are offered respectively. At the end of the worship gracious gift (Prasad) would be distributed. All other festivals would take place strictly in accordance with festival rituals.
